Jacob Lawrence: The Life of Toussaint L’Ouverture
Exhibit will celebrate the artistry of Jacob Lawrence, an important American painter and print maker. Jacob Lawrence (1918-2000) created 15 dramatic and colorful silk-screen prints based on a series of 41 paintings entitled The Life of Toussaint L’Ouverture that he completed in 1938. This exhibition will present all fifteen silk-screen prints from the Curtis Ransom Collection of African American Art, alongside the Dallas Museum of Art’s painting The Visitors, and a related portrait photograph by Arnold Newman of the artist from the DMA’s collections.

The Lens of Impressionism: Photography and Painting Along the Normandy Coast, 1850–1874
An exploration of Impressionist painting’s response to early photography within the context of a single geographic locale that was intensely explored by painters and photographers in the second half of the 19th century, the coast of Normandy. The convergence of social, artistic, technological and commercial forces along the Normandy coast dramatically transformed the course of photography and painting, ultimately making a profound impact on the history of early Impressionism. Among the artists represented here are Claude Monet, Edouard Manet, and Gustave Courbet, and the exhibition will also include photographs of Gustav Le Gray, Henri Le Seq, and Louis-Alphonse Davanne.

Gustav Stickley and the American Arts and Crafts Movement
The first comprehensive examination of the life and work of the recognized patriarch of the American Arts and Crafts movement, Gustav Stickley. The exhibition and accompanying catalogue will explore Stickley as a business leader and design proselytizer, whose body of work included furnishings, architectural and interior designs, and related imagery that became synonymous with the movement that was at its height between approximately 1880 and 1910. This exhibition will include more than 100 works produced by Stickley’s designers and workshops; furniture, metalwork and lamps, textiles, and numerous publications and letters, drawings, and related designs. Also featured in the exhibition is a re-creation of Stickley’s seminal model dining room from his 1903 Syracuse Arts and Crafts exhibition.

Green Fields, Black Smoke: Nature & Progress When Dallas was Young
During “Living History Seasons,” characters dressed in period clothing will reveal the environmental truths of 1888 Dallas. Through special exhibits and programming, we investigate if people really were “greener” in the nineteenth century and how life on the family farm was affected by the growth of industry.

Andy Warhol: The Last Decade
The first U.S. museum survey exhibition to explore the work that this seminal American artist produced during the final eight years of his life. Warhol entered a period of renewed vigor and enthusiasm in the 1980s that resulted in what was arguably the most productive period of his career. The exhibition includes approximately 55 works lent by private collections and institutions.

Edward S. Curtis: The North American Indian
In 1900, Edward S. Curtis undertook the momentous task of documenting American Indian cultures across the United States. Over the next 30 years, he took over 40,000 photographs and collected information about more than 80 tribes, ranging from the Inuit people of the far north to the Hopi people of the Southwest. The Amon Carter Museum will display a selection of works from this compelling new acquisition.

From the Private Collections of Texas: European Art, Ancient to Modern
The Kimbell plays host to 100 of the most important European paintings and sculptures ever held in private collections in Texas. Most of them are works normally hidden from public view, ranging from glorious Impressionist paintings that once decorated ranchers' homes in West Texas to gems of Renaissance and Baroque art owned by the great collectors of Dallas and Houston. Since first coming into wealth on a national scale in the 1920s, Texans have continued to assert a record of art collecting of the highest discernment. Over 40 collectors will be represented, and among the artists to be featured are Guercino, Rembrandt, Gainsborough, Monet, Renoir, Gauguin, Van Gogh, Matisse, Picasso, and Mondrian.

Dallas Blooms: Fiesta de la Flores
Dallas Blooms is the largest floral festival in the south, showcasing over 500,000 spring-blooming bulbs. This year a 12’ tall Ferdinand the Bull topiary will delight guests, bringing the classic children’s tale to life. Ferdinand will be “smelling the flowers” accompanied by a honey bee topiary amongst a bed of blooming spring flowers.
