MM-
What inspires you to
teach art to children?
Children respond
amazingly well to art
exploration. There is
not a child out there
who does not have fun
while creating art of
some sort, and while
teaching them I have the
pleasure of sharing
their joy first-hand.
MM- Has
your perspective on art
changed since you became
a mom?
As most moms do, I have
developed a deep level
of patience and an
appreciation for every
child's unique gifts. It
is always exciting to
teach a project to a
group of children and
have each children's
final work look
different. The beauty
lies in their individual
self-expression, and I
love to see their little
spirits captured in
their artwork.
MM - How
do you balance work and
motherhood?
First and foremost, I am
a mom! Motherhood is
what takes priority at
this point in my life,
and I feel fortunate to
have a career that
allows me to fluctuate
my hours and involvement
as my schedule permits.
Also, I have the
children on a pretty
predictable daily
routine which allows me
to teach and paint
during naptimes. Plus,
the help of family and a
wonderful housekeeper
are invaluable!
MM -
What advice can
you give to moms who
want to start their own
business?
Don't be afraid to start
small! Someone far wiser
than me said, "A journey
of a thousand miles
begins with a single
step."
MM
-
What activities do you
like to do with your
children and why?
Our
Friday playgroup is
essential. There is a
group of twelve of us
moms who became friends
during prenatal yoga
when our children were
in utero, and now all
the kids are the best of
friends. Plus, many of
us have had second
children, so the group
keeps getting bigger and
more fun. There is never
a dull moment, and after
playgroup everyone takes
a great nap!
MM-
What is the best advice
you received about being
a mom or raising a
child, and what advice
would you give to other
moms?
The maternal
instinct is a very
powerful one, indeed!
Trust your gut...nobody
knows your baby better
than you and don't be
afraid to be your baby's
strongest advocate.
MM - Do you have a motto
you would like to share
with other moms?
Be happy for this
moment...this moment is
your life.
