MM - For years you have been attending some of the coolest parties on the entertainment scenes from coast to coast, report about them on the nightly news, and then up at 4 a.m. every week day for your radio show, full of energy and showing it. How do you compensate for the missed beauty sleep?
No matter how tired I am, I always make sure to remove all of my make-up. The worst thing you can do is go to sleep in your make-up. Your skin repairs itself while we sleep at night, so it is extra important that we allow our skin to do what it needs to do. I also always make sure that my skin is moisturized and hydrated. I always apply a serum and moisturizer at night as well as an eye serum and eye cream before I go to sleep. And concealer goes a LONG way!! The best concealer in the world is by a line called Cle de Peau. I swear by it! It makes you look like you've slept 8 hours when you've only slept 4! And I always drink a liter of water in the morning. That's a great way to start the day.
MM - When did you decide to write your new book, Beauty Buzz, and why?
I feel like I've been writing my book for years since I answer questions each week during my radio beauty segment. I finally decided to write it last summer when one of my loyal listeners basically told me it was my duty to share my knowledge with the world. She told me we are all given a gift and it is our responsibility to share it with others. I couldn't agree more!
MM - Even with your years of experience, did you face any challenges in bringing this book into the market?
My biggest challenge was just making sure that I didn't forget anything! I have been fortunate enough to accumulate so many beauty tips and tricks I wanted to make sure that I included them all in my book. Luckily, I think I was able to.
MM - Both you and your husband have very busy careers, and even your stepson wrote his own book when he was 15. How do you all balance family time and your careers?
It's all about priorities. You have to find a balance in life with work, career and family. My husband and I are both extremely career-oriented and are often working. But even if we are both working on our laptops, we make sure we sit next to each other on the couch. It's all about the little things in life.
MM - With summer coming up women are looking for ways to lay off the makeup yet still look made up. What tips do you have for them?
Definitely switch to a tinted moisturizer for summer. It's just too hot to wear a full coverage foundation. And look for a tinted moisturizer that contains an SPF 20 or higher (Laura Mercier and La Prairie make great ones). There is nothing more important for your face and body than sunscreen. We all like to have a little bit of a golden glow in the summer, but we know our dangerous the sun can be. Look for a great self tanner that will give you some color in a safe way. Jergens makes a great one that you can buy at the drugstore. I also like Kate Sommerville's tanning towelettes. The celebrity skin care expert actually formulated these for her client, Paris Hilton. Kate was tired of seeing Paris with bad, orange fake tans, so she created the towelettes with her in mind. For summer, keep it simple--tinted moisturizer, concealer, a little blush or bronzer on the cheeks and a sheer, nude lip gloss.
MM - What advice can you give to moms who are too busy for beauty?
All you need is 5 minutes to add a little concealer under the eyes, a light coat of mascara on your lashes and some nude lip gloss. It's all you need to head out the door in a hurry and still look great! Moms give so much to so many people. You deserve to give yourself 5 minutes for beauty!
