MB - How did your life change when you
became a mom?
I was instantly filled with
bliss and gratitude! I've wanted to be a mom and longed to
have a child for three years so it is everything I've prayed
for and more! Also, I instantly shifted my focus from me,
me, me, to Wright. I'm so fulfilled now and I know I'll be
loved and will love forever.
MB -
What has been your
most memorable moment as a mom?
Every day becomes more memorable
than the day before because the joy keeps building as Wright
changes and develops his hilarious personality. Every
gesture he makes is a milestone. I'm constantly asking
myself - is that mommy's or daddy's trait?
MB -
What has been the
biggest challenge for you in motherhood?
Sleep deprivation - I knew it
would be the hardest part!
MB -
What activities do
you like to do with Wright and why?
Itsy Bitsy Yoga is a great
bonding experience with Wright because I am learning how to
read his cues and can help him use certain movement and
postures to alleviate gas, congestion and joint stiffness,
and sleep longer. I like the New Moms Group at Presbyterian
Hospital of Dallas. - it is the best $25 monthly fee I've
ever spent! I get to meet other moms and receive advice from
the nurse moderator. I also like MetroMoms events. They are
so much fun and educational, and I always leave with
goodies and fabulous freebies.
MB -
How do you
maintain your sense of style while juggling a business
and a child?
I'm not sure I do... These days I'm most often in sweats
with no makeup, going on walks or to yoga with Wright.
MetroMoms events are my best excuse to put on some makeup
and dress up. It's nice to get together with other mommies
in a social setting.
MB -
What are your
favorite “Mom Essentials” and why?
Skip*Hop products - I love the
Saddlebag and Pronto for quick trips to the mall or store. I
also like the Baby Bjorn carriers because they got my
husband comfortable with soothing the baby. Other favorites
are the Podee self-feeding bottles, the sidekick diaper bag
with the built-in baby carrier and my K-ID necklace that I
wore throughout my pregnancy.
MB -
What is the best
advice you received about being a mom or raising a
child?
Trust your intuition. You are
the mom and mom knows best! Ask for help; don't try to
figure everything out by yourself. Ask lots of questions and
read as much as you can before the baby arrives as there is
not much time after. Finally, smile at your baby all
the time!
MB - If you could give
another mom or expectant mom one piece of advice, what
would it be?
Live in the moment - the first
year is exhausting but so rewarding and it flies by! I
treasure every minute with Wright because I know these are
the days I can never get back. I literally live every day
like it could be my last - I take tons of pictures, write
notes and love letters to the baby, videotape him all the
time, especially all of the "firsts": rice cereal, crawling,
walking, giggling, playing. This way, we can both reminisce
on his childhood as he grows up.
MB - Do you have a
motto you would like to share with other moms?
"Motherhood is 99% desire, 1%
preparation." Remember when you're exhausted, exasperated,
frustrated etc. how life was before the baby, and how your
life is so much more fulfilled now that baby is here. Babies
are miracles and should be treated as such.
